September 2026 - Back to Business - Why September is perfect for Team Building at Valley Escape
September has a particular energy to it. The school holidays are over, routines are back, and — whether you’re running a business or a classroom — it’s the point in the year when everyone starts thinking seriously about the months ahead.
Here’s why September and Valley Escape go together so well.
Team Building That Doesn’t Feel Like Team Building
Most people have sat through a team building exercise that felt more like an obligation than an activity. Trust falls, forced icebreakers, and the sense that everyone would rather be at their desk.
Escape rooms work differently because nobody’s pretending. The puzzles are challenging, the clock is ticking, and the teamwork that emerges happens because it has to, not because someone’s been told to engage. People communicate, delegate and problem-solve under time pressure — and usually discover things about their colleagues they didn’t know.
We’ve hosted teams from a wide range of local organisations over the years — healthcare staff from the community hospital, retail teams from Asda, care home staff, hospitality workers and an estate agency team, among others. Different industries, different pressures, same result: a group that leaves having worked better together than they expected to.
Why September?
If your organisation is planning ahead for the year — new starters settling in, teams being restructured, budgets being reviewed — September is often the natural moment to invest in something that strengthens how your people work together. It’s also a good excuse to get out of the office before the run-up to Christmas gets busy. Of course, if you’re reading this at another time of year, any time is a good time for a team building escape room adventure!
Groups of up to 10 or more can play together, thanks to our multi layered game design. For even larger teams we can run back-to-back sessions so everyone gets involved. Get in touch to discuss what would work for your organisation.
Schools Are Back Too
September isn’t just about workplace teams. It’s also when schools return, and Valley Escape has become a popular destination for educational groups looking for something a bit different from the usual term-time outing.
Last September we welcomed all 60 Year 6 pupils from Brynhyfryd Primary School, who spent the day with us in rotating groups, combining the escape room with a wider carousel of activities. Inspired by their visit, the pupils went back and designed their own escape room challenge at school, running it in aid of Comic Relief. We were delighted to go along and give the children some ideas and inspiration as they put it together — seeing the puzzles reinvented through a ten-year-old’s imagination was a highlight of our year.
We’ve also welcomed Year 12 students from Ysgol Ystalyfera, who took part as an extension of their subject classes, and teams from special schools in the local area. We tailor the support to ensure that our escape room can be played by younger children, teenagers, and adult teams. Our puzzles naturally draw on logic, literacy, numeracy and teamwork, which makes a visit both an enjoyable day out and a useful learning experience for students of any age.
If you’re a teacher thinking about a class trip or a curriculum-linked activity this term, we’d love to help.
