Bespoke, Themed and Pirates a-plenty: Our Mobile Games Are Levelling Up

We’ve mentioned our mobile games before on our blog — the ones that take Valley Escape out of Cwmtwrch and into schools, libraries and community venues across the valley. And somewhere along the way, pirates have become a bit of a house speciality. Not that we’re complaining.

Where It Started: Abercraf

Our very first mobile game was a pirate-themed build for a Year 6 Leavers’ Party at Abercraf Primary School. We originally planned an outdoor experience but rain kept everyone indoors, so our game moved to the school hall.

That ended up setting the tone for how we approach mobile games ever since: work with what’s there, adapt to the day, and build something that’s tailored and not pulled off a shelf.

Rescue the Parrot: Creunant

Creunant Primary School got in touch about their own Year 6 Leavers’ Party and asked for a bespoke pirate-themed game. This time, a glorious sunny day meant we could take the whole thing outside.

That changed the experience completely. Instead of a classic “escape the room”, it became more of a “complete the mission”: rescue the parrot, beat the clock, and use the school grounds as the stage. We also worked in some of the school’s own displays and equipment, which gave the whole thing a real sense of belonging to the school.

We visited the school ahead of the event to walk the space, talk through timings and make sure everything would run smoothly. By all accounts, it went brilliantly. The pupils threw themselves into the puzzles, the pirate theme gave the day a proper sense of occasion, and our host Aboudi went the extra mile by dressing as a pirate. Legend.

The school’s review afterwards said it better than we could:

“We hired Valley Escape to create a bespoke pirate-themed escape room for our Year 6 Leavers Party at Creunant Primary School. All the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the fun and challenging puzzles. Thank you to both Chris and Aboudi for their enthusiasm and great communication throughout the planning process (including a pre-party visit to the school). Extra shout out to Aboudi for dressing up as a pirate to add the extra touch of magic for our pupils. Highly recommend.”

Reviews like that make the extra effort worth it.

Two Games, One Lesson

Abercraf and Creunant were built for the same kind of occasion, but they ended up as very different experiences. One was shaped by rain and moved indoors. The other was shaped by sunshine and became an outdoor parrot rescue using the school’s own grounds and equipment. Neither was a case of rocking up with a standard kit and going through the motions.

That’s really the point of our mobile games. We’d much rather adapt to what a school or venue actually has — and what a specific event actually needs — than deliver the same fixed experience everywhere. Our summer holiday mobile game at Ystradgynlais Library over the past two years has also been created to complement their summer reading challenge.

Planning Something of Your Own?

If your school, workplace or community group has an event coming up — whether it’s a leavers’ party, a fundraiser or something else entirely — we’d love to chat about what we could build for it. Indoors or out. Pirates or something else altogether.

Contact us by phone: 07446 174218 or email play@valleyescape.co.uk

Already thinking about next summer’s leavers’ celebrations? It’s worth getting in early. Bespoke builds like these take planning time, and we’d rather have that conversation sooner than rush it later.
